Moseley ARC

Mehndi and Furniture Exhibition

The Moseley ARC Project was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and took place in 2007.

Working with a group of 14 disaffected young people, the funding was used to create pieces of furniture. The children learned about the Leather industry and its production, and different types of wood to be used in furniture making. They were also taught the art of carpentry, and the application mehndi (henna) to wood and leather.

The work unified the use of natural products, Mehndi, Wood and Leather. I worked with 2 professional woodwork artists, and a group of youth workers over a period of 15 months to create the pieces. This resulted in an exhibiton to display the work of the 14 school pupils who worked tirelessly to produce furniture of innovative style and design.

The exhibiton was held on Tuesday 17th July 2007 and ran for 1month

Venue: Moseley School, College Road, Birmingham, B13 9LR
